In our previous classes, we covered the theory and methods of weaving 3-shaft drafts with two heddles. Now, let’s build on that skill and add one more heddle, opening up the world of 4-shaft weaving!
With 4 shaft capabilities comes an endless supply of ideas and projects from published works. This class will cover the limitations of the rigid heddle and how to determine if a pattern will be appropriate for our looms.
We will go beyond just threading theory to discuss how to get the best results and manage a full 4 shaft project from threading to weaving.
Equipment:
Rigid heddle loom with a 2 heddle block, 3 heddles (Sample project uses three 15 epi heddles)
Handouts
Pre-requisites
This is an advanced rigid heddle class.
This class assumes you are proficient in warping and weaving 3-shaft structures and have a clear understanding of drafts and drawdowns. It leans heavily on The Xenakis Technique, by David Xenakis. You do not need to have to read that book in order to take this class but if you have, some of this class will be familiar.
