Color Mixing 2: Blending Colors

In this class, you’ll learn to predict and control the color you get when you combine warp and weft colors in cloth. You’ll discover:

  • How colors mix in weaving, and why weaving produces very different results than paint mixing
  • How to predict the range of potential colors
  • Methods for getting the exact color you want within the range of possibilities
  • How to predict and prevent muddiness, or use muddiness on purpose
  • Sampling methods to test your color predictions before committing to a full project

You’ll also design and weave a color gamp to explore color mixing in the real world.

By the end of class, you’ll be able to look at two colors, know what range of colors they’ll produce, and deliberately choose how to mix them to get any color within the range.

Prerequisites: Color Mixing 2 builds on Color Mixing, which covers how to control how much blending happens in your cloth. That isn’t a strict prerequisite, but if you have trouble with this class, start with Color Mixing and come back once you’re done.
