A straight threading and straight treadling seem so simple but are actually a powerhouse combination. By using them in combination, you turn the tie-up into a blueprint for each repeat in the drawdown. Anything you can doodle into the tie-up will appear directly on your cloth!
There’s some fine print, of course, and this course goes into all the nitty gritty detail to help you harness the powerful potential of a straight threading and treadling while avoiding the pitfalls.
You’ll learn
- What straight threadings and treadlings are, and also what they aren’t (Spoiler: they are. not. twill.)
- How they behave like cookie cutters and make copies of your tie-up all over your cloth
- How to flip and rotate the threading and/or tie-up to make motifs face the direction you want.
- What to watch out for to avoid floats that are too long
- How to avoid non-viable cloth
- How to turn anything you can doodle on a rectangular grid into a draft
This course is also a first introduction to Handweaving.net’s Draft Editor, which lets you work through drafting exercises right inside each lesson: you’ll be able to add, remove, flip, spin, and modify any part of the draft and see the results instantly. You can even save your work and pick it up again later.
Instructions for using the features of the Draft Editor that you need for this course are given right in the exercises. Instructions for all the Draft Editor’s features will be available soon separately.
