Welcome to Photography for Weavers! This course starts at the beginning, covering basic camera operation, framing, and styling. It is actually an introduction-to-photography class, and the content is tailored to weavers and our needs.

Photography, in its most basic definition, is a permanent record of light and shadow, capturing a time and space within a frame. In the beginning, photography needed light-sensitive paper or film; today we capture images on our digital cameras and phones, putting this transformational technology in everyone’s pockets.

Anyone can become good at photography. It’s a matter of knowing how cameras work and how to light your piece, then style and compose your images so they look as good as your weaving.

You don’t need any supplies or prerequisites to take this course for knowledge alone.

However, to complete the exercises, you’ll need a piece to photograph and a digital camera or smartphone. For editing, we will be using basic tools commonly available on your computer or phone.
