Stash weaving can be a challenge. You’re working with limited amounts of yarn, yarns you wouldn’t normally use, and “mystery yarns” that you impulsively picked up at that estate sale or thrift shop fifteen years ago – and now have no clue what it is.

You might also be trying to use up yarn “leftovers” – the half-finished bobbins and ends of cones from other projects. Or quickly chomp through an excess of yarn.

Design Recipes: Stash provides “recipes” to help you design and create beautiful work from your stash.

The recipes in this class cover three different stash scenarios:

  • The “quick and easy” stash scarf for when you want to use up lots of stash yarn without a lot of fuss
  • The “bits and bobbins” project to use up very small quantities of yarn – e.g. leftovers from another project
  • The “normal but stash-y project” that combines different types and/or limited quantities of yarns, creating suspense about the finished results

What’s in the class?

Three design recipes, and a troubleshooting section that will help with all three recipes.

Each recipe starts by explaining what it is, when to use it, and its advantages and disadvantages for weaving stash projects.

After that, you’ll get suggestions for each stage of the design process – choosing yarns, colors, and a draft, and then designing your project. Finally, you’ll get suggestions for calculating sett for that specific recipe.

At the end of the class, there’s a tips and troubleshooting section that addresses how to address stash project problems that might arise (most notably: running out of yarn!).

Getting help

As with all our classes, there’s a discussion forum built into the end of every lesson. Post there for class-specific questions, to share your drafts and projects for feedback (and oohs and aahs!), help, or just for fun!
